What does it mean to feel accepted by family? What are the things we wish we could say to our parents, and the things parents sometimes wish they knew how to say to their LGBTQ+ children?
On 18 October, SAFE and Proud Spaces, together with Sendok Rakyat, invite you to SEMEJA — At the Table: an intimate afternoon bringing LGBTQ+ folk and affirming parents together through food, conversation and the making of nasi ulam.
LGBTQ+ people of all ages are welcome, with younger LGBTQ+ people especially encouraged to join. Parents of LGBTQ+ people are warmly welcome too.
Registration is required. Places are limited.

Come to the SAFE booth at the Queer Love village at Pink Dot to share your thoughts in a safe and welcoming space.
What do you wish you could say to Mum, Dad or your family, that you haven’t been able to say?
There, you will find 90 original hand drawn postcards by SAFE parent, @artbyradha. Write a note to Mum, Dad, & family to share a slice of your life and thoughts. What did you want to say to them but may not have been able to?
These postcards will form part of an installation art to thank as well as call family to support their LGBTQ+ family members.
SQ21 - Singapore Queer Families in the 21st Century is out!
The long awaited sequel to the original SQ21, which was published in 2006 and republished in 2017 – both of which were completely sold out – is now out.
This sequel follows the real life stories of ordinary Singaporeans – a gay son and his straight mother, a lesbian family with child, a gay couple bringing up kids, a transwoman and her family of choice, a drag queen star and grandma, two gay brothers, a transman and his co-parent and a gay couple.
The book reminds us that families – queer or otherwise – come in all shapes and sizes. What matters is love.

The stories you will encounter reveal the quiet courage necessary to live honestly in a society that still asks many to hide parts of themselves.
